  • Colour matching techniques

  • Understanding colour temperature

  • Value and tonal relationships

  • Familiarising yourself

  • Creating harmonious colour palettes

  • Building contrast and visual impact

  • Developing a personal colour journal

  • Applying colour theory to both figurative and abstract painting

Through demonstrations, discussion and practical studio exercises, participants will develop a deeper understanding of colour, how pigments behave differently and greater confidence in their painting practice.

We’ll also begin building a colour journal to expand your confidence and support a more personal connection with colour.

The course begins with a day of discussion and practical exercises, followed by a week to reflect and process. We’ll then reconvene for two consecutive days of more sustained painting, giving you the opportunity to consolidate and build on what you’ve learned.

At the end of the final day—weather permitting—those who’d like to are warmly invited to join for a drink at the lovely Dalston Curve Garden which my studio overlooks.

Paper and canvas are included; please bring your own paints, brushes, and an A3+ tear-off palette.
